Tragic Update on Cargo Plane Accident: Fatalities Increases to 13

The total count of lives lost resulting from the transport jet that caught fire and crashed has climbed to 13, according to recent statements.

City Leader's Statement

Traveling to the Teamsters’ candlelight gathering, I learned of a 13th person that lost their life as a outcome of the UPS flight 2976 crash,” wrote the local official in a public communication. “My thoughts are with the families, companions and colleagues of all who were taken in this recently occurred calamity. We will get through this as one.”

Casualties Confirmed

A release from the company listed the officers operating the jet as Pilot Richard Wartenberg, Co-pilot Lee Truitt, and International Relief Officer Dana Diamond.

“Our hearts reach out to every staff member who has been touched and everyone in our local region – assisting you and making sure you obtain the care and assistance you need is our focus,” the firm’s statement stated.

Inquiry Details

National investigators announced that the freight aircraft’s left wing ignited and an engine separated just after liftoff from the Louisville Muhammad Ali international airport, resulting in the plane to fall and burst into a blaze.

The NTSB stated it is examining the jet’s maintenance history, that was in Texas for maintenance a period prior to the accident.

Flight tracking records showed the plane was on the tarmac in San Antonio, Texas from 3 September to mid-October.

“We are cognizant that this plane was there in that city,” remarked an official on the following day, not giving a precise period. “We will review every piece of repairs that was completed, from the repair time, right up to the day of the journey.”

Retrieval of Critical Components

The audio device and flight data recorder were retrieved, and the power plant was located on the runway.

The devices – referred to as black boxes – were designed to withstand accident forces and extreme heat from blazes, and they looked to be intact when found among the remains. Authorities plan on examining data from the black boxes.

The plane’s final data recordings indicated an height of 475 feet and a rate of that speed prior to the crash.

Maintenance History

According to aviation authority records dated last month, a fracture on a part in the tank area required repairs.

The company ST Engineering, which said it offers structural repairs for the carrier’s MD-11 and runs a maintenance center in San Antonio, refused to speak, but stated it would work closely when investigators approached it.

Services Restart

In the meantime, the facility operations restarted Wednesday night with its Next Day Air or evening operation, spokesperson the company official said. The three tarmacs at the airport were also open again.

The distribution hub in Louisville is the organization’s largest. The facility engages in excess of 20,000 individuals in the area, manages 300 flights per day and processes more than 400,000 items each hour.

Community Reaction

A memorial was held on the night of recently by the local labor union, which acts for staff at the airfield, the organization’s largest freight center.

Teamsters Local 89, which represents UPS workers, commenced the gathering with a period of reflection at that time, the approximate hour of the incident two days earlier.

“This tragedy was so abrupt, so surprising,” the mayor spoke to the assembly of two hundred. “No one had a opportunity to part to any one of those who we have said farewell to.”
